Vice President, Business Services

The Vice President, Business Services will serve on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), reporting to the president, working alongside other functional leaders, requiring strong collaboration skills, understanding of interdependencies, displaying humility, people smarts and a desire to constantly improve;  all through the lens of the client.

VP Business Services is responsible for the financial and risk management operations for the company, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, appropriate performance metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets, optimize owner’s investment and report accurate financial results. Principal accountabilities are:


  • Work with the SLT (Senior Leadership Team) to formulate the company’s future direction as well as support tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans throughout the organization by collaborating with key stakeholders
  • Develop financial strategies that support company vision and align to owner expectations
  • Manage the capital needs,  budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction


  • Provide thought leadership in key decisions as a member of the SLT; responsible for short and long term plans and budgets
  • Maintain in-depth and healthy relations with all members of the management team
  • Manage the accounting, cash management, Financial Planning & Analysis, functions
  • Oversee and ensure financial and data integrity throughout ERP systems
  • Build, develop and manage team(s) capable of carrying out needed initiatives, while implementing operational best practices
  • In conjunction with Parent, oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package partnering with the Employee Services
  • Provide financial support on the evaluation of potential acquisitions (i.e. valuation, due diligence process, negotiations and integration strategies)
  • Approve and/or negotiate all major contracts related to the best practices and other efficiency programs for major corporate expense and capital items with a goal of achieving maximum value creation while managing risk and maintaining quality

Financial Information

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual budget analyses providing key insights to SLT
  • Recommend and develop policies, procedures and systems to meet company objectives
  • Provide financial information to President in preparation for the Executive Quarterly  Meetings, consistent with the financial information reported by Direct Travel, ensuring the numbers tell a story aligned with strategy and accountable to key metrics
  • Establish/monitor financial reporting systems and controls to ensure compliance with company expenditure requirements
  • Personally review and approve all financial information presented to the President, Parent, owners, lenders and investment bankers

Value Creation

  • Examine all business processes and practices for opportunities to increase cash flow, reduce capital investment and drive efficiencies
  • Work closely with Business Development to enhance NPV of proposed deals with clients
  • Work closely with all managers to challenge existing ways of doing business with an emphasis on increasing competitive advantage, and reducing capital

Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile including receivables, contracts, insurance and new products
  • Develop, implement and monitor reliable control systems.  Work closely with Customer Experience to pull financial controls through operational team and ensure compliance
  • In conjunction with Parent, maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Maintain relations with Parent’s legal councel and serve as internal legal liaison
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors, private equity owners and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the President
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
  • Make sure the company maintains policies and procedures consistent with the expectations of good governance, helping maintain an open, innovative and forward looking employee base


  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts and insure ample liquidity for company operations
  • In coordination with the President and Parent, arrange for debt financing for operations, capital projects and acquisitions
  • Protect operating cash and insure proper banking and operational procedures

Third Parties

  • Maintain banking relationships as required
  • Represent the company with investment bankers and other outside parties, as needed
  • Report to the President and Parent  as required but not less frequent than quarterly

Ideal Candidate Profile: The candidate for the VP Business Services position would ideally have a master’s degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent business experience and 8 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation. Knowledgeable about the incentive meeting and travel industry, demonstrated career experience working with private equity,  strong Cash Management and FP&A experience would be preferable.  Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance.

Working Conditions: Will work in an office environment. Travel will be required to other company locations, company clients and suppliers and to interact with the owners and other third parties.
